Feathers go hard on "Soft"

If Kylie Minogue met Depeche Mode at a dark London afterhours and got onstage they would prob sound a bit like Soft by Feathers. All that said these girls actually hail from my present state of residence Texas. I remember hearing much buzz about them actually affiliated with Depeche at this year's SXSW, unfortunately I did not get to catch their show. Very pop driven but also dark and a bit manacing, I do love their sound and am just getting to really delve into their debut album If All Now Here. Definitely check them out!
Also check out single Land of the Innocent.

CHVRCHES is ready for summer with new track Gun

Love when you can feel the clear shift to summer music. CHVRCHES give us Gun, a Robyn esque electro mid-tempo track that will fit perfectly in a summer pool party playlist. Love the driving beat, touch of 80's synths and the breathy vocals.

DISCLOSURE FT. JESSIE WARE: CONFESS TO ME

Hope everyone had an amazing Memorial Day Weekend! And just in case you aren't ready to stop dancing take a listen to this. Disclosure have been delivering solid 90's throwback house more than just about anyone out there. Jessie Ware and that big voice of hers teaming up with them always produces nothing but perfection. "Confess to Me" may just be my favorite track they have done yet. Album "Settle" is out in just a few weeks on June 3rd, definitely gonna be another summer dance album to keep on repeat.

Lorde this is good music!

Once again our friends from down under, New Zealand this time, are giving us sick beats in the form of Lorde. She put out EP "The Love Club" out a few months back so definitely check it out. Royals has a bit of a Bird and the Bee vocal feel while the beat is simple but strong. Million Dollar Bills almost feels a bit Santogold, def a bit more urban and upbeat. Both great summer songs, hope to hear more from her soon!

Presets keep me Faaaaaaaaall(in) for them

It's no secret to anyone who knows me that the Presets are one of my favorite bands of all time. After what felt like forever, we finally got Pacifica last yr, an album I love. The standout tracks were many for me. Promises, Ghosts, Surrender to name a few, but Fall always felt like the track that nailed it! I feel like it's what bands like Pet Shop Boys, Erasure, OMD would be making if they were to show up on the scene now. Soaring vocals and a driving synth it has summer written all over it. Though quite literal, the video is actually very cool in its simplicity and portrays Fall's vibe well.  If you are lucky enough to see their tour with Dragonette and Classixx, I hate you...no but seriously if you have a chance to go check them out they are great live! For now get up and dance to Fall!

Giorgio Moroder gives us what MOST wish Daft Punk had, with "Racer"

After sitting with R.A.M. by Daft Punk I will admit I really do appreciate it a lot. The production is lush and well crafted. That said, like many, I was thrown by it's lack of energy throughout. I also wished Moroder had more of a presence. Well perhaps Giorgio feels the same way, as he has released his own track called, Racer. Put on Soundcloud yesterday, it is CLASSIC Moroder but feels modern and is nothing but fast paced energy from the first kick of the bassline. It almost sounds more like Daft Punk than anything on R.A.M. If we are lucky perhaps more is on the way from one of my favorite producers of all time. Enjoy!

Annnnd we're back with Eli & Fur givin me great and sexy Nightmares.

Sorry for the bit of hiatus here at MGTBM, it's been a sorta slow week or two on the music front. There have been 1 or 2 great releases such as the new Daft Punk, but some music I just feel gets SO much attention on the blogosphere there is only so much more I can say about it. So my only comment on that is, its not dancy, its chill, its good. Get it!

Now on to some more great music. Eli & Fur bring us Nightmares. Great bassline, great layering and a simple but very effective sexy vocal(mumble almost). Love how it gives great energy but at the heart feels like a real late night dark track. Enjoy, and I promise there are many more and frequent posts on the way boys and girls.

Roisin Murphy servin up 90's fat basslines on Look Around You

Roisin Murphy is easily one of the best pop chanteuse's of the last decade. Overpowered is still one of the best electro pop albums I have ever heard. 6 yrs have passed since that release and unfortunately we haven't gotten much more than a handful of one of singles since. Look Around You is without a doubt one of the best tracks I have heard Roisin deliver in ages. Her voice is in top form and the instrumental track hits hard. Here's hoping we may actually get full album of this caliber soon. Enjoy!

Little Boots is in top dancefloor form on Nocturnes

Little Boots is easily top 3 of my fave new artists in the last few yrs. Her first album was one of my faves in 2011 though many thought she lost herself a bit in what her sound should be, including her. Nocturnes is a total return to the demos and youtube videos that got her discovered in the first place. It hits the ground running and rarely stops until the very end. This will no doubt be a huge part of this summer's soundtrack. You can stream it here http://pitchfork.com/advance/82-nocturnes/ First single Broken Record is the kind of song that has a dancefloor filled in seconds, enjoy!
And the song that started it all

Pet Shop Boys Axis is like the Dr. Who theme on Molly.

I will always hold the Pet Shop Boys in a very special place musically. Few have managed to consistently release music that is as interesting and on point as they have for a span of 30 yrs. After the release of Elysium, perhaps my least favorite PSB album to date we were blessed with a Stuart Price remix of single "Memory of the Future" which felt instantly like classic PSB. I remember saying immediately that they needed to just have him produce their next album. Apparently the music gods were listening and in March, album "Electric" was announced, completely produced with Price. First single Axis is a nonstop assault of synths and exactly what most people want from the boys. The video is the perfect visual pairing. Cannot wait to hear what else the album has to offer!

Blondfire are California beachy perfection with Waves

Fell in love with Blondfire last year when I first heard Walking With Giants. They just seemed to be the epitome of that carefree west coast sound. The minute I saw that first video I knew they had a very specific esthetic musically and visually. Waves continues that theme seamlessly. Love the blend of acoustic guitar with just the right amount synth accents. The vocals are solid but gentle and do a great job of takin you to another place. At times she reminds me of some tracks the Cardigans had back in the day. Enjoy!

And since this is STILL on my daily playlist, revisit Walking With Giants(the original video which was shot in the dessert much like Waves is,it was oddly taken down and replaced with this viusalizer vid, at least you can check the track out.)

Young Galaxy are dreamy electronic lovers in Pretty Boy

Switching over to my more usual electronic esthetic we have Young Galaxy with Pretty Boy. I feel like comparing them to Robyn is sort of a general statement but it isn't a bad starting place for description. If you love the driving beats and dreamy synths of Robyn espec her work with Royksopp but perhaps with a more heavy sounding vocal or even moments of Nikki and the Dove this should do ya right. Unfortunately I did not get to check them out at SXSW but I heard very good things about the shows they did. Album "Ultramarine" hit the streets this week, go check it out.

Rudimental does a 180 with Emeli Sande on hand!

It is rare I hear a producer/dj/artist pull completely different genres off effortlessly from album to album, let alone from track to track. Meanwhile Rudimental have knocked it out of the park with both Free and previous post track Baby. I was instantly intrigued to see Emeli Sande featured on a Rudimental track after hearing Baby because I couldn't imagine her on a similar track. Well similar "Free" isn't, however, stellar it is! Take a listen to the beautiful, almost tribal feeling track.

Rudimental Realness! If things get any more 90's I'm gonna need to find some Cross Colours!

Rudimental ft. MNEK & Sinead Harnett "Baby" is about as 90's as it gets. This seems to be the accidental theme this week. I love the mix of house beats, chill vocals and greats rhymes in this. Everything flows seamlessly. Enjoy another installment of throwback house and lemme assure you Rudimental isn't a one-note, just wait....

Freemasons Update The Formula

You'd have to be deaf not to acknowledge the clear Daft Punk "Human After All" influence here. That said, Freemasons do it well. I have always loved them as mostly a guilty pleasure, albeit a respected one(nothin gets hands in the air on a Sunday like em). This still has that build that their old tracks have but with with a much needed update to the sound. Interested to see what is to follow, there hasn't been an album announcement yet but Bring It Back is out now.

Speaking of those hands in the air mixes...

Find a pool and a cocktail! Le Youth are here to "Cool" you down.

There's nothing I look forward to more than the summer months with friends and cocktails outside with great music! Or being able to drive with the windows down and music up! In addition one of my favorite trends in music these days is the shift from frantic, messy dubstep to the retro 90's house that seems to be taking over. So many producers are taking the best influences of the time and giving them the update they deserve and Le Youth are a prime example. "Cool" has that perfect bounce and female vocal for a summer day by the pool or on a rooftop in the city. In addition the video does "throwback" perfectly( I keep lookin for Cindy Crawford's 90's mole) Enjoy!

Sam Sparro Gets Even Luckier!

DAMN! I was doing my best not to post Daft Punk's "Get Lucky" simply for the fact that I'm pretty sure even every pre schooler has heard the track. Leave it to Sam Sparro to re work the funk out of it and ramp it up a few notches. It is interesting to me how this almost sounds like MORE of a Daft Punk production than the original. LOVING THIS!

Tegan & Sara present the best ballad thus far this yr, I Was A Fool

I must admit I have always been less than impressed by most of T&S overly angsty indie stuff. While I enjoyed their coulple of dance colaborations with the likes of Morgan Paige and Tiesto,  I always felt they were capable of some truly great work on their own. The minute I heard they had pulled in Greg Kurstin(pop genius) to revamp their sound for album Heartthrob, I knew they would hit it out of the park. Every track on the album is pop perfection while still feeling very T&S. One of the standout's is also their new single "I Was A Fool". One of the more down tempo track's, the match of melancholy lyrics with a perfectly crafted pop melody is evident from the first piano riff. I rarely listen to this song just once, and the video is a perfect match for it's mood. Hopefully this will be the hit they deserve(and that Closer should have been). Take a peek for yourself!

And while your at it, can we ever really get enough of Closer :)

Monday, April 22, 2013

You'd have to live under a rock not to have heard fantastically simple and cool "Get Lucky" by Daft Punk by now. A song getting so much attention I won't even bother posting. Clearly disco is coming back HARD. Truth be told it's BEEN bubbling up for a while. Classixx is a perfect example of blending the classic disco sounds with a slick summer vibe. They have been sending out remixes for a few yrs now but debut album Hanging Gardens is finally out May 4th.  Cannot wait to be poolside with these tracks if lead single "All Your Waiting For" is any indication of what's to come!

P.S. Madonna, this is the music you SHOULD be making, call these guys fast ;)

Also check out the track that made me truly fall for Classixx, "Holding On"

Alison Moyet goes back to her electro Yaz roots!

I still remember Yaz' "Situation" being such a part of the soundtrack to my childhood. In addition "Only You" is one of my favorite songs to this day. I also still remember thinking Alison Moyet's husky vocal was that of a guy, woops. I haven't kept up with her career too much over the years but was ecstatic when Yaz reformed for a reunion tour in 2009 and thank god they did as it renewed her love for electronic music. She is back this yr with "The Minutes" an all electro collection and this is the fist single remixed by Manhattan Clique. Loving this and cannot wait to hear the album!

And for old times sake

Annnnnnnd we're back.

Its been a minute folks. 2 yrs to be exact  but I am back at it and ready to bring you as much new music, news and fun as possible. I can't believe my last post was Robyn's Call You Girlfriend, time sure does fly. I cleared all old posts as to start fresh. Please let me know if you have any suggestions questions or just wanna say HEY! Cheers to the adventure, I hope you'll come and "Hang With Me" often :)
